Rape victim meets DG, complains of police inaction

Cuttack: A rape victim from Nayagarh district met DG, Police RP Sharma here Thursday to seek justice and security. She alleged that in spite of her lodging a complaint at the Khandapara Police Station, no action has been taken against the accused.

She alleged that, Khandapara police acting on her complaint registered a case (Case No-15/19) against accused Shreedhar Nayak of Singhapada area a week back. However, since then no action has been initiated against the accused.

She informed the DGP that the accused is mounting pressure on her and her family to withdraw the case. Even her family has been offered Rs 5,00,000 for it. The accused has also threatened her family that he will release the video of the act on social media platforms if the case is not withdrawn. She also said that her family has been forced to shift to a relative’s house for safety reasons as the accused is roaming free.

Prashant Das, Sarthak Ray, Ayeskant Kanungo and Shreenibas Mohanty of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha of Baimundi Mandal along with the victim met the DGP and to seek justice. They said unless some action is taken promptly a state-wide agitation will be launched.
