RDC constitutes expert team to probe ‘forgery’

Cuttack: Central revenue divisional commissioner (RDC) Akhil Bihari Ota Wednesday constituted an expert team to probe allegations made by some witnesses against SUM Hospital authorities.
The expert team was constituted after four persons, who appeared before the RDC to record their statements in connection with the tragedy that claimed 31 lives so far, alleged the hospital authorities had forged affidavits.
Ota directed the team comprising chief fire service officer, some former fire service officers, president, secretary and executives of Bhubaneswar private hospital association and some officials of other departments to probe the charges before submitting a report.
The expert team will meet at the circuit house here to discuss various aspects of the case. The team will probe time the hospital authorities had taken to inform the fire service officials after the mishap, what were fire safety measures available at the hospital and circumstances that led to death of so many patients and submit a report to the RDC.
“As I was told to complete the investigation into the fire mishap by December 19, I have asked the expert team to submit their report before the deadline,” Ota said.
Sources said some families of victims  who deposed before the RDC Tuesday brought serious allegations against the SUM  authorities. In the affidavits filed by the relatives of the victims, they claimed the hospital authorities had taken their signatures while providing them compensation.
