Reduce fees as recommended by high-level committee Orissa HC tells private schools

Cuttack: Providing much relief to parents of students studying in private schools, the Orissa High Court Thursday said that the schools would need to reduce fees as per the recommendations made by the high-level committee formed by the court for the purpose.

The court also clarified that if anyone has any objections regarding the fee slab fixed by the committee, they can challenge the same through writ petitions.

The High Court constituted the committee after the state government December 2 last year said that it has no mechanism for fee fixation of private schools. The High Court had asked the state government to propose a uniform reduction in tuition fees for students of private schools.

Notably, PILs were filed by All India Parents’ Association, Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh, lawyer Mohammed Mustaq, and Prahallad Rout of Bhubaneswar seeking a waiver of fees for students of private schools in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
