Remains of woman recovered, 5 of family held

Nuapada: After receiving reliable information, police Thursday recovered the skeletal remains of a woman and held five members of her family for alleged murder and destroying evidence in Nehana village of Nuapada district.

A preliminary probe revealed that the woman died after she was slapped by her brother over a trivial issue. The woman has been identified as Ankita Dandasena. The skeletal remains and ashes were found near a forest.

Sources said there was an argument between the woman and her brother Mukchand after she insisted on going to see ‘Astaprahari’.

In a fit of rage, Mukchand slapped his sister hard and she died on the spot.  The family later secretly cremated the body at a nearby forest.

The incident came out when the skeletal remains and ashes were found near the forest later in the day. Villagers suspecting foul play informed the police and they reached the village and launched a probe.

Similarly, in Nuapada, the body of a youth was found in Dharamabandha village in the Sadar block of Nuapada district early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Kishore Sahoo, (25), of the same village. He was working for an NGO in the district.

Sources said some locals spotted his body in a pool of blood and alerted the police. The cops reached the spot and launched a probe. The body was sent to a local hospital for post-mortem.

Although the exact cause for the death has not been found, police suspect that the youth might have been murdered.
