Renuka Lane, nearby areas in Puri declared as containment zones

Puri: With test reports of two patients in Puri coming out to be positive for COVID-19 infection Sunday, the district administration Monday declared Renuka Lane near the sea beach where the patients live and some other connecting lanes as containment zones.

Apart from barricading, all the lanes and by-lanes in the area were sanitised. Meanwhile, ten persons have been identified as contactees of the patients. Their swabs were collected and sent for test, it was learnt.

Collector Balwant Singh informed that the patients have been shifted to a COVID hospital in Bhubaneswar. They are doing well.

“The administration has asked the residents living in containment zones not to come out of their houses. There are officers entrusted with the job to ensure the people get essentials at their door steps. The administration doesn’t have to face much difficulty in supplying essentials as the area has more hotels than houses,” he added.

Notably, the pilgrim city reported its first COVID-19 positive case April 3. The patient, a resident of Pipili block, had Nizamuddin link. After some days of treatment, he recovered and was discharged from hospital. He is now at home.

After a long gap of 36 days, the district again reported two cases, leaving the people in a state of worry and apprehension.
