Rourkela: The woman and her daughter, who were found walking naked on the bridge over river Ib, have been reunited with their family and have returned to their native place at Kharibari village in Chhattisgarh, police said Tuesday. Police also alleged that the allegations of rape raised by the mother-daughter duo were found to be baseless. Since October 6, when the two women were rescued by BJP MLA Kusum Tete, the case has grabbed eyeballs. Initially, the two claimed that they were from Jharkhand. However, later during the investigation, police found that the two were from Chhattisgarh. The two women had time and again said that they were gang rape victims.
However, police after conducting medical and psychiatric examinations did not find any evidence of rape. SDPO Sundargarh, Himanshu Behera said Tuesday that during investigation both the women were found to be mentally unstable. “Their family members came here Monday after getting information from the police in Chhattisgarh. They gave an undertaking that they will look after the women following which we allowed the duo to go with them. The family members said that as they are very poor, the two often go out in search of food, but return home always. This is the first time they strayed elsewhere,” Behera informed. Behera was asked about a particular ‘Mithun’ mentioned by the two women during the investigation. “We investigated the matter and found out that Mithun was not involved in any way with the two women,” Behera stated. “As they are mentally unstable, they mentioned many things incoherently.
During medical examination we did not find marks of any injuries or assault on their bodies,” Behera added. Behera also stated that no case has been filed on the matter, not even rape. “We did not find any evidence of rape. The two were repeatedly questioned, but they could not clearly say anything and provide enough evidence,” Behera informed.
