Bamra: Residents sore over inaction by Andhra Pradesh police and state government’s lukewarm response in the death of a local student due to ragging at a college in the neighbouring state called for Bamra bandh again January 30 seeking a CBI probe into the death.
The victim identified as Sreyash Kesharwani (16) of Gadposh under this block died after he was ragged by his classmates and other students at Chaitanya Institute in Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh January 6. The incident sparked shockwaves among the residents as they observed bandh by placing the body on road.
The residents have decided to call Bamra bandh again as Andhra Pradesh police failed to make any headway in its probe while the state government has so far showed no concerns in bringing the culprits to book.
The AP police, sensing the anger among the residents and to thwart of any possible law and order situation, just conducted a probe by visiting the deceased family at Gadposh as well as places like Rourkela and Bhubaneswar. Police, however, failed to arrest the students responsible for the death.
The lackadaisical attitude of the AP police as well the state government has pushed the bereaved family into further distress as they wait for justice over their child’s death. This has also infuriated the residents and the action committee formed by them has called for Bamra bandh Tuesday demanding a probe by the Central investigating agency.
Kuchinda SDPO RC Dandasena and Gobindpur IIC Biswapati Panda tried to restrain the residents from observing the bandh again but the latter refused to budge from their stand. When contacted, IIC Panda said regular interactions are on with PM Palam police in Andhra Pradesh and the accused persons will be arrested soon. PNN
