Bhubaneswar: A retired bank official died Monday morning after he hit his two-wheeler (OD-02-B-6136) behind a mini-truck (OD-05-4831) just in front of Khandagiri police station.
The police identified the victim as Uttam Kumar Sahoo (63) of Jagannath Vihar, GGP Colony. Uttam was coming with his wife Nirupama to visit a relative admitted to a private hospital in Khandagiri area.
“The mini-truck abruptly stopped when the traffic cop showed the stop signal. Uttam failed to apply brakes and hit the rear part of the truck. The couple was then hit by another car (OD-02-L-9351) from behind and fell on the road. We immediately rushed the duo to Capital Hospital, but Uttam succumbed there. Nirupama was then referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, where her condition is stated to be critical,” the police added.
Eyewitnesses said the two-wheeler of the victim got completely crushed in the accident.
Meanwhile, the police have detained the car owner who hit the couple’s two-wheeler from behind. Police sources identified the car owner as Dilip Kumar Rout of Puri district.
