Bhatli/ Kendrapara, March 7: Six persons including three of a family were killed in two separate road mishaps in Bargarh and Kendrapara district Friday and Saturday.
In the first incident, six members of a Jain family from Rengali camp were coming to Bhatli in Bargarh district in a car to celebrate Holi Friday morning. The vehicle hit a tree along the Bargarh-Pipalmunda road after the driver lost control over it while trying to negotiate a turn, killing Seema Jain (29), her son Kanha (5) and Kunti Behera (35) on the spot.
Driver Hemanta Kumar Jain (34), his sister Priyanka (20) and his six-month-old daughter Pari sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
Later, they were shifted to the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla. However, Pari died while being taken to the hospital. Police seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.
In the other incident, two persons were killed while five others were injured after a truck hit a Tata Magic van from rear near Haladiagada Chowk on the Paradip-Daitary Expressway Saturday, said Marshaghai police station IIC Sukanta Kumar Patra.
According to police, the van carrying seven persons was heading towards Paradip when a speeding truck coming from the same direction hit it, killing Tukuna Mallick (30) of Tikhiri under Marshaghai police station and Ruhi Singh (30) of Dantunikollhasahi under Badasahi police station in Mayurbhanj district on the spot. The injured were rushed to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital. Three of them were later shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital after their condition deteriorated, Patra said.
Police seized the bodies and sent them for autopsy. Drivers of the truck and the van managed to flee after the mishap.
