Road blockade in Ranpur for patient’s death after treatment

Ranpur: Family members of a patient who died at Ranpur government hospital Saturday and about two hundreds villagers staged a road blockade at hospital square at Chandpur-Sunakhela main road under Ranpur block in Nayagarh district Sunday morning.

They were demanding action against the doctor and compensation to the deceased’s family. Alleging medical negligence as the cause of Gobind Mohanty’s death, his widow registered a case with Ranpur police station.

Sources said, Gobind of Shyamghanpur village of Brajarajpur panchayat under Ranpur block complained of chest pain Saturday noon. His family members rushed him to Ranpur government hospital and got him admitted.  Dr Meenaketan Baliarsingh administered an injection to Gobind and asked his family members to take him back home. However, while they were on their way home, Gobind succumbed.

The incident irked the family members and locals who created a ruckus at the hospital. Fearing being manhandled, the doctor escaped the hospital.
