Mumbai, Sept 3: India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma said the goal of the team is to become No.1 in the world in all the three formats, which can be achieved by following the right processes.
“It is going to be a long season for us (Indian team), but as a team we are moving in a good direction. We had successful tour of the West Indies and we would like to continue with our momentum in the home series,” said Rohit.
“The idea is very simple… we would like to become the No.1 side in Test cricket, followed by the other formats. But as of now, we would just like to maintain the form that we are in,” added the right-handed batsman.
Rohit was speaking at the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai’s (SJAM) Golden Jubilee Annual Awards 2016 function here.
“Again we have to look (at) one series at a time. New Zealand are going to be here very soon and we have to focus on that. I am sure if we do the process right, we will get the results (that) we want,” stated Rohit.
Echoing similar views, stylish batsman Ajinkya Rahane said, “For us (Indian team) it is important as Rohit (Sharma) and Zaheer bhai (Zaheer Khan) said to play one series at a time and that is New Zealand right now. We are going to play 13 Tests at home and it is indeed an exciting prospect.”
Also present at the function was former India pacer Zaheer Khan, who was the chief guest at the programme. “It is exciting to see that so many Test matches are scheduled this year. This kind of season, can change the whole graph of a cricketer’s life, for better or worse actually. So I hope everyone prepares that way,” said Zaheer.
“If you are in a positive frame of mind, your rhythm is good if you are a bowler or a batter, make the most of it. Because this kind of a season doesn’t come along often,” added the former left-arm fast bowler.
In spite of India playing at home, Zaheer stated that it would be even battle because the conditions of the pitches will not be tailor-made for the bowlers. “So early in the season, it is difficult to have a pitch with wear and tear… so India should have the right balance between pace and spin,” Zaheer pointed out.
