Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police Monday organised a traffic awareness campaign at the AG Square in Bhubaneswar. Several Odia film industry actors and actress including Anubha Sourya, Niharika Dash, Poonam Mishra, Harihara Mohapatra, Samaresh Routray and Jyoti Ranjan Nayak participated in the campaign and gave roses to the people and traffic police personnel urging everyone to obey traffic rules and wear helmets. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anup Sahoo said that the awareness programme was organised under the aegis of the Commisionerate Police’s Raising Day. “We are organising several programmes in different parts of the state to observe the day. Today many actors and actresses of the Odia film industry took part in the awareness programme today and asked people to follow the safety rules for benefit of all. We hope that people will understand the value of following traffic rules and will obey them.”
Actor Anubha Sourya said, “Many people just wear helmets fearing that they would have to pay fines. But they need to realise the importance of life. By distributing roses today we wanted them to understand the importance of life and why they need to follow the traffic rules.”
“I just want people to realise that the traffic rules are for their safety and long and healthy lives. Often young people don’t wear helmets while riding motorcycle and use mobile phones while driving. This is a very dangerous thing. If something happens to them, their parents are the worst sufferers. We need to take this aspect into account, said actor Samaresh Routray.
Recently, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) installed the Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVDS) and Speed Violation Detection System (SVDS), including the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), to automatically catch and penalise the traffic violators across the city.
