‘Rotten rice’ for Prasad

Puri: Expressing concern over the quality of ‘Maha Prasad’ served at Jagannath temple here, several devotees have complained to the authorities that rice supplied to the temple for the purpose is insect-infested. The incident came to light a couple of days back when packets of rice meant for cooking ‘Prasad’ transported in a rickshaw were found to be worm-infested.Puri district collector Arvind Agarwal said, “We will look into the allegations. Action will be taken against people involved in the purchase of substandard rice. We will not compromise on quality.” Temple chief administrator Pradeep Jena said use of poor quality rice for ‘Maha Prasad’ is against the norms and it will not be tolerated.
