Rourkela businessman abducted, miscreants demand Rs 1 crore ransom

Rourekela: Miscreants kidnapped the owner of a crusher unit and have demanded a ransom of rupees one crore, police said Sunday. The victim has been identified as Pradeep Kundu of this city.

The miscreants abducted Kundu near Bijabahal locality under Biramitrapur police limits of the district Saturday evening when he was going to his work place from home. Family members of Kundu lodged an FIR at the Biramitrapur police station Sunday.

Sources said, Kundu left for the crusher unit after getting a call from one of his staff. The person apparently had requested for an advance against his salary. Kundu left home at around 7.00pm in the evening.

However, when he did not return even late into the nights, his family members launched a frantic search for him. They contacted all the relatives and Kundu’s friends to trace him. However, their efforts proved futile. So early Sunday morning they lodged a police complaint.

Acting on the complaint, a team of Biramitrapur police launched a search. They found Kundu’s car parked on NH-143. When police opened the doors of the car they found a syringe, Kundu’s phone and the ransom letter demanding rupees one crore.

Police have launched a manhunt for the miscreants and to rescue Kundu.
