Rs 15 cr aid for 1,489 schools of 22 districts under Mo School Abhiyan

Bhubaneswar: The eighth executive council meeting of Mo School Abhiyan took place here Friday under the chairmanship of principal secretary of school and mass education department Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra. It has been decided in the meeting that an amount of Rs 15 crore (Rs 15,16,80,970) –a donor contribution of Rs 5,05,60, 323 by the alumni and a state government grant of  Rs 10,11,20, 647  — will be spent on projects under the scheme.

In the new phase 1489 schools of 22 districts of Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogargh,Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kenojhar, Kendrapada, Khurda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sundargarh will be covered.

The executive council has also decided to collaborate with the British Council of India for capacity building of English teachers from 100 Adarsh Vidyalayas and 41 zilla high schools to develop their proficiency in the English language. A project to establish facilities of language labs and libraries in 30 schools is also in the pipeline.

The council also discussed about Mo school library projects by Bakul Foundation. Chief executive officer of Mo School Abhiyan, Bhupendra S Poonia,  said that the ‘Under the Caravan’ programme,  in collaboration with Bakul Foundation and Tata Trusts, has established student libraries in 18 schools of Kandhamal(6), Kalahandi (8)and Rayagada(6).
