Khurda: Two bike-borne miscreants armed with guns decamped with Rs 28.85 lakh from the manager-cum-accountant of Godipada tollage after holding him at gunpoint Monday afternoon.
The robbery occurred just about 100 metre away from Jankia police station on the National Highway 16 at around 3pm. Khurda superintendent of police (SP) Dilip Kumar Das immediately rushed to the spot and sealed all the routes in nearby areas, but failed to nab the robbers. A probe has been initiated into the matter, police said.
According to sources, Godipada tollgate manager-cum-accountant PH Laxmi Venkat Prasad Sahu left his office near Golabai Square in the morning and was on his way to Jankia branch of Punjab National Bank in his car to deposit the cash. He was accompanied by two youths from Andhra Pradesh while his driver Srinu was driving the car.
