Rs 37 crore allocated for road repair in Deogarh

Deogarh: The KDR (Kantapali-Dantaribahal-Rambhei) Regional Development Committee has expressed its gratitude to officials of the district administration, Works department and the Odisha government for allocating Rs 37 crore for road repair in Deogarh.

The panel had been demanding repair of the potholed RD road which runs along the National Highway-49 at Balam under Barkote block in Deogarh district to Laimura in Tileibani block.

Finally the budget to repair the road has been finalised at a little over Rs 37 crore. The RD road from Balam to Loimura village passes through Rambhei, Dantaribahal and Kantapali gram panchayats.

The condition of the road with full of potholes and uneven bumps makes it a nightmare for commuters to travel on it. They informed that accidents regularly occur on this dilapidated stretch.

The KDR Regional Development Committee formed with representatives from the three panchayats of Kantapali, Dantaribahal and Rambhei has long been demanding that the road be repaired. The members had staged roadblocks and fast-unto-death protests in past.

Their efforts finally paid off as the committee got the support from other social organisations and some political leaders. The road was handed over to the Works department and the tender process for repair was also completed. Due to one reason or the other repair work was not carried out in the last two years. It left the locals fuming and angry.

However, they are happy now as the Odisha government has made a fresh allocation for the work. “If outfits resort to any such activities and if those have adverse effect on the project, the parties and organisations involved will be held responsible,” said secretary of KDR Regional Development committee, Janmejay Pradhan.
