Rs 9.5L looted from Cuttack BOI

Cuttack: A group of unidentified miscreants posing as customers looted over `9.5 lakh from the cash counter of a bank in the busy Nayasarak area of the city within the limits of Lalbag police station Tuesday, the police said.
The incident occurred around 12.30pm at the Bank of India branch and interestingly neither the officials nor the customers were witness to the incident. The four, posing as customers, sought the assistance of the cashier to withdraw a large amount. ‘‘Bundles of cash brought from the strong room were kept on the table of the cashier and two of them managed to pocket a few while the cashier was busy counting the notes,’’ stated the FIR. The cashier later informed the branch manager about the loot when he found the cash missing from a deposit box inside the cash counter.
On receipt of the complaint, the branch manager immediately informed the Lalbagh police station. Deputy commissioner of police and ACP (zone-3) along with a scientific squad reached the spot and started investigation by observing the CCTV footage.
On being asked, DCP Akhileswar Singh said, “This is not loot. The money was lifted in a mysterious way. The CCTV footage of the surrounding is also being observed. After proper verification the miscreants will be nabbed.” In a similar incident, miscreants looted cash from the State Bank of India, Mangalabag branch, by confusing the cashier some years back. The police traced the Arogola gang involvement in the mischief on the basis of CCTV footage.
Lalbagh IIC Debadutta Baral said, “The CCTV footage showed the presence of four persons in the crime and one of them lifted the cash from the counter. This could be the handiwork of the Arogola gang which is engaged in similar activities around the city.”
No one has been arrested in this connection so far.
