New Delhi: The work relating to rural electrification in Orissa under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) is likely to be completed by the end of December this year, authorities working on the project said Monday.
The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) Ltd, the nodal agency working on the project, claimed that the whole target envisioned under the DDUGJY relating to Orissa is likely to be achieved this year.
“Works are going on in the targeted states. In Orissa, we are likely to achieve the target of rural electrification under the DDUGJY by the end of December,” PV Ramesh, Chairman of REC told Orissa POST.
According to the 2011 Census, Orissa is home to 47,677 inhabited villages. But according to the REC data, merely 287 villages are yet to be electrified. Out of 47,677 census villages, 47,390 villages (99.3%) have been electrified so far.
The Union government had launched the scheme DDUGJY for rural electrification in December 2014 to provide electricity to all villages. The erstwhile Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) for providing electricity to rural areas was subsumed in the DDUGJY. The REC is the nodal agency for implementation of the DDUGJY.
