Ruthless Rutuparna reigns supreme

Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: Orissa lass Rutuparna Choudhury entered the final of the U-14 singles category in the Super Series tennis tournament currently on at the Bengal Tennis Association (BTA) courts in Kolkata.
In the semifinal played Thursday, third seed Rutuparna prevailed over second seed Archana Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 6-3, 6-2 dominating proceedings right from the word go. She broke her opponent’s serve four times and lost her’s only on one occasion.
Chinmay-Sidharth loses
Chinmay Pradhan’s campaign in the Gondwana Cup ITF Futures tennis tournament ended as he and his partner Sidharth Viswakarma lost to the pair of Manish Suresh Kumar and Vignesh Veerabhadran 2-6, 2-6 in the semifinals at Raipur, Thursday.
Eves advance
Orissa eves made it to the quarterfinals of the 49th National Senior Kho Kho Championships after drubbing Pondicherry 11-4 in the pre-quarterfinal match at Solapur, Maharashtra, Thursday. Orissa will meet Kerala Friday for a place in the semifinal.
In their pre-quarterfinal tie, Mandakini Majhi, Madhusmita Ojha, Sasmita Nathasharma, Priyanka Singh and Sasmita Patra were the star performers for Orissa. In the league stage, Orissa had beaten Jammu & Kashmir by one innings and 18 points, drubbed Uttarakhand 14-2 and spanked Chandigarh by one innings and eight points on their way to the last 32 stage in the event.
However the men’s team bowed out of the tournament after losing 3-12 to Railways.
Orissa enter quarters
Orissa entered the quarterfinals of the National School Games Girls’ Football Championships after thrashing Andhra Pradesh 3-0 in the pre-quarterfinal at Andaman, Thursday.
