Bhubaneswar: Promising tennis player Rutuparna Choudhury’s career received a boost Thursday with Krish Indigenous Technical Equipment (P) Ltd deciding to sponsor her outstation expenses during tournaments.

At a function at the Press Club of Orissa, the announcement was made by the directors of the company, Prasant Kumar Mohanty and Soumitra Pattnayak in the presence of state sports minister Chandra Sarathi Behera. A special jersey for the player was also unveiled during the occasion.

She has also played in two ITF tournaments in Bangalore and Guwahati. She failed to make it to the main draw at Bangalore, but did so in the event at Guwahati.

The tall and lanky girl stated that now to improve she would like to play more and more in the senior segment. “Unless I do that, I will not improve. The more I compete with the senior players, the better it is for me,” she stated.

Rutuparna also informed that she is taking the help of a personal physical trainer. “I’ve had a trainer with me for one tournament when I went outstation. I want to do that more in the future. Having a personal physical trainer on tour, really helps,” pointed out Rutuparna.

The player also said that she has started spending quality time in the gym and will do so in the swimming pool to increase her muscle strength. “Modern tennis is all about power and I have realised that to improve my muscle strength I will have to follow a strict regimen. I have started doing that,” she stated.
