Rourkela: Vigilance sleuths Wednesday arrested Rural Works Division (RWD) cashier, Arun Kumar Nayak on charge of accepting `7, 000 from contractor Jogeswar Sharma to pass the bill of a building.
Officials seized chemical laced currency notes from Nayak’s possession along with building construction papers.
Rourkela vigilance DSP Bhaskar Chandra Prusty, Deogarh DSP Purushottam Sethy and Sundargarh DSP Parmeswar Kishan along with a special team conducted a raid at Panposh based RWD office.
Officials arrested Nayak and he was sent to Sambalpur special vigilance court, sources said.
According to sources, Jogeswar of Biramitrapur had taken a contract for the construction of Nuagaon block Panchayat Samiti High School worth `10 lakh. A total `6 lakh was deposited in Jogeswar’s account after the construction was over. However, the remaining `3 lakh was not deposited.
Jogeswar approached Nayak for clearance of `3 lakh. However, Nayak allegedly demanded `7, 000 to pass the bill of the remaining amount. Later, Nayak made Jogeswar run from pillar to post after the latter failed to pay the amount.
Jogeswar later approached Rourkela vigilance and narrated his ordeal. Vigilance officials launched an inquiry and registered a case after Jogeswar’s complaint was found true. A trap was laid to catch Nayak red-handed in the presence of witnesses.
As per the plan, Jogeswar took `7, 000 chemical-laced notes and handed it over to Nayak. Vigilance officials in plain clothes seized the currency notes in the presence of the witnesses and arrested Nayak.
A case was registered and further investigation is on. A possible raid at Nayak’s residence and office is to be done by vigilance officials, sources said. PNN
