Bhubaneswar, August 21: SAI International School and Vikash Residential School registered easy wins in their respective league round matches of the 26th Inter-School MCL Cup Football Tournament at the Unit-VI High School Ground here Friday.
In a Group-C league match, SAI blanked St. Xavier’s High School, Khandagiri 2-0. After the barren first half, Dipankar Marandi drew first blood in the 46th minute. Abhisek Mohapatra doubled the lead after three minutes. Dipankar was adjudged the man of the match.
In a Group-F league match, Vikash Residential School rode on a brace by Sampad Patra to thrash Buxi Jagabandu English Medium School 3-0. Sampad opened the account as early as the seventh minute. He then scored another in the 27th minute. In between Sudip Kumar nailed a goal in the 15th minute to seal the fate of the lop-sided match. Sampad bagged the man of the match award.
Hosts win
Hosts Bolangir defeated Chhatrapur 2-0 in the inaugural match of the State Police Football Championship at Manohar Pur Police Ground in Bolangir, Friday.
Bolangir dominated the match completely scoring a goal each in both the halves. Bikram Nag opened the account for Bolangir in the 19th minute and the team went into the lemon break with a 1-0 lead.
After the change of ends, the hosts continued with their winning momentum. Yogendra Deep netted the second goal in the 70th minute.
