Sainik School sail into semis

Shivashankar Hembram receives the man of the match award in Bhubaneswar, Sunday  

Bhubaneswar: Sainik School entered the semifinals of the Inter-School football tournament after beating Kalinga Vidyapitha, Sampur 2-0 in the first quarterfinal at the Unit-VI High School Ground here Sunday.

The first half was barren despite attacking football by both the teams. Sainik School players increased their intensity after the change of ends. Shivashankar Hembram scored the first goal for the winning team six minutes into the first half. He scored his second goal three minutes later to seal the fate of the lop-sided match. Shivashankar was adjudged man of the match for his excellent soccer skill.

 

SAI-STC triumph

Sabir Khan and Prabhat Dandsena scored a goal each as SAI-STC scrapped past Club N Club 2-1 in a match of the FAO 1st Division football league at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Sunday.

Sabir gave SAI-STC the lead in the 19th minutes before Prabhat doubled the lead on 38 minutes. Debraj Sa reduced the margin for Club N Club by finding the back of the net in the 72nd minute. But SAI players held fort to prevent further any damage.

In the other match of the day, Chand Club and Sunshine Club played out a 1-1 draw. Rakesh Nayak put Chand Club in the lead in the 13th minute while Sunshine Club equalised through Pintu Samal on 61 minutes.
