New Delhi, August 26: Bronze medal-winner at the Rio Games, grappler Sakshi Malik has disclosed to a section of vernacular media that she is planning to marry in 2016 itself. She has also stated that for the next one month she is only going to gorge on ‘Aloo Paratha’ and ‘Kadhai Chawal’ – two of her favourite items, that she had given up for the last four years to pursue her Olympic dreams.
“Every day, I used to watch others in my family have these mouth-watering items. For me the menu used to be different varieties of soups… nothing more,” Sakshi has been quoted as saying during the interview. “So whenever, I am getting an opportunity to eat anything, I am simply gorging on these two items,” she added.
As the topic turned to her personal life, Sakshi stated that she will be marrying a wrestler only. “But the name is top secret and I won’t disclose it under any circumstances,” she said. But then won’t marriage affect her sporting ambitions. “No, I don’t think so. My partner is very supportive and that is one of the main reasons why I am marrying him. In fact, he can guide my preparations and we can train whenever we want to,” she joked.
The Olympic medallist also informed that she doesn’t bear any grudges against her critics who at one time stated that women or girls can’t be wrestlers. But she is happy that their predictions have gone awry.
“Why should I be angry with them,” she asked. “In fact I would like to garland each one of those critics. It was their comments which motivated me… I was desperate to prove them wrong. Frankly speaking, who cares for them anyway,” she added with sarcasm dripping from her voice.
