Sand mafia issues death threats to Jharsuguda RIs

Jharsuguda: The sand mafia has allegedly issued death threats to government officials at Panchpada in Jharsuguda district Wednesday.

According to reports, revenue inspectors (RIs) Sujata Patel and Sambhu Gochhayat were allegedly manhandled by the owner of a sand stockyard when they had gone to check sand trafficking from the site.

The owner of the yard, identified as Aman Sharma, also allegedly threatened to kill them. Following the incident, the two RIs informed the Tehsildar about it and also lodged a complaint with Town police.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case and started investigation into the matter.

Earlier, the sand mafia had issued death threats to Jajpur Tehsildar Laxmikanta Mishra after he had seized two illegal sand-laden trucks.

The incident had taken place after Jajpur town RTO Manoj Kumar Behera was crushed to death by a stone chips-laden truck on National Highway-215 near Nuapada Chowk.
