Mumbai: India women tennis player Sania Mirza has said Sunday that she is suffering from a knee injury and would soon take a call on whether a surgery is needed or not.
“It was tough year with partners getting injured, but now I have a bit of a knee injury. I have been off for about a month now and have couple of weeks more to rest. I have to see if I need to have a surgery or not,” Sania said to the reporters on the sidelines of the Indian Sports Honours here.
The 30-year-old Sania, who began the year as the top ranked doubles player closed it at number 9 also, added that she is happy to finish close to the top 10.
Meanwhile, India’s non-playing Davis Cup captain Mahesh Bhupathi has said that it was just a matter of time for young Ramkumar Ramanathan to break into the top 100. “Ram (Ramkumar Ramanathan) is much younger and had his breakthrough this season. He has got a good coach in Emilio Sanchez and the next two years are crucial for him,” Bhupathi told reporters in the same event. The 23-year-old Chennai-born Ramanathan is currently ranked 148 in ATP men’s singles.
