Bhubaneswar, Feb 29: Baring seventh seed Pradeep Deswal of Haryana all other seeded players had an easy outing on the opening day of the AITA-OTA men’s tennis tournament as they won their respective first round matches to advance into the next round at Berhampur, Monday. Unseeded Sarthak Patnaik of Orissa registered an upset 6-3, 6-1 win over seventh seed Pradeep.
Second seed Abhinansu Borthakur of West Bengal got the better of Utkarsh Tiwari of Madhya Pradesh 6-2, 6-2 while third seed Ansu Kumar Bhuyan of Orissa triumphed over state mate Kabir Hans 6-0, 6-1. In another match, fourth seed Abhishek Gaur beat Dhaval Jain of Maharashtra 6-3, 6-1 while fifth seed Raswant Ravi of Tamil Nadu defeated Ashutosh Das of Orissa 7-5, 6-0.
Superstars XI win
Superstars XI defeated Veterans XI by four wickets in a match of the Puspalata Garabadu Memorial Masters T20 cricket tournament here Monday.
Put into bat Veteran’s XI mustered 132 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs with Sekhar Garbadu (32) and Manoj Mohapatra (25) batting well. Johan and Pramod bowled well for Superstars to capture two wickets each.
In reply, Superstars overhauled the total in 18 overs for the loss of six wickets. Manoj Das (27) batted well to lead the run chase.
