Bhubaneswar: The proposed joint verification and demarcation of the old Satara Nala bridge at Abdulnagar in Pandara was stalled Wednesday after officials from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Revenue department failed to turn up for the scheduled site inspection. An engineer and an Amin from the Odisha State Archaeology department reached the site as scheduled and waited nearly an hour for officials from the BMC and the Revenue department. With no representatives arriving, the team was forced to leave without conducting the planned joint verification.
Sources indicated a communication breakdown among the concerned departments. While some officials reportedly claimed they had not received the notice regarding the inspection, others admitted to having forgotten about the scheduled exercise. The absence of officials stalled the proposed demarcation of the bridge, embankment, and adjoining land to determine its exact location and status.
Earlier, August 13, a joint inspection by the BMC Land Section, Odisha State Archaeology Department, and other agencies identified the bridge, recording its dimensions at 9 feet 6 inches by 10 feet 6 inches to facilitate the preparation of a site sketch map. BMC Deputy Commissioner Jogendra Majhi stated that the inspection would be rescheduled shortly. “The assigned BMC official could not attend due to a medical situation. We have spoken with Archaeology department officials and will fix a new date soon,” Majhi said.
