School boundary wall collapses in Jajpur

Bari:  The 10-year-old boundary wall of the oldest primary school in Golkunda panchayat under Bari block of Jajpur district caved Tuesday.

Even though three students were present at the school at the time of the incident, nobody was hurt.

According to a source, the school building is in a dilapidated condition. One of the classrooms has already crumbled and the campus is filled with bushes. The boundary wall was in poor shape following heavy downpour last year and it eventually collapsed Tuesday.

Locals say the school that takes students from Class-I to V was established in 1948. At present, at least 49 students study in school and there are two teachers to teach the students.

It runs under an acute shortage of infrastructure and lack of teachers, locals alleged. They further said that these are among the most important reasons why parents have stopped sending their children to this school.

Golkunda Sarpanch Sarat Kumar Jena demanded immediate repair of the school building and the boundary wall.
