School in Koraput district faces safety issues, teacher shortage

Koraput: The Bharati primary school at Chipakur panchayat under Baipariguda block in Koraput district has been facing several problems including shortage of teachers and safety of the building.

The building of the school, situated in the tribal-dominated pocket of the district, has developed several cracks.

Fearing a wall collapse, the parents have stopped their children from going to the school.

Besides, there are only two teachers in the school which has 50 students.

A budget was sanctioned 10 years ago for the construction of a new classroom. However, the teacher on duty embezzled the money, it was alleged. The teacher died around two years ago.

Baipariguda Block Education Officer Sudhir Chandra Rath said, “Some amount would be deducted from the encashment of fund to be disbursed to the deceased teacher’s family. This procedure will take some time.”

Meanwhile, the locals have threatened to launch an agitation if the construction work of the school building was not completed soon.
