Science Parks to come up in 10 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to encourage scientific minds and creativity among students, the Odisha Government has decided to set up science centres and parks in 10 districts. Odisha government’s Science and Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda said the proposed Science Parks will come up in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Bhadrak, Puri, Bolangir, Sundargarh and Jagatsinghpur districts.

In the second phase, the Odisha government will build these Science Parks in Boudh, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Rayagada, Kendrapara, Khurda, Gajapati, Angul, Balasore and Cuttack districts, said Panda. He added that Rs 6.50 crore has sanctioned by the government to set up the Science Parks in the first phase.

The proposed parks will consist of a science gallery, development laboratory, a conference room for training of students. Quizzes and seminars on various topics will be conducted regularly in these parks.

The minister further clarified in the Assembly that Cuttack district administration has earmarked 5.2 acre land in Panchama mouza for the setting up of the proposed park.

Odisha already has a science park named ‘Regional Science Centre’ which is located at Acharya Vihar area in this city. It is looked after by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).
