SCW moved over housewife’s ‘murder’

Bhubaneswar, March 10: The mother of a 25-year-old woman of Balasore district Tuesday moved the State Commission for Women (SCW) alleging her daughter was killed by her husband and in-laws for dowry at Baulagadia in the district.
Petitioner Rebati Sethi, in her complaint before the SCW, alleged that her daughter was being tortured by her husband Harish Chandra and her in-laws.
“February 20, a neighbour called me up and said my daughter is dead. On reaching the spot, I found her dead with her tongue severed,” she wrote in her petition.
She also alleged her son-in-law had demanded
`65,000 and a motorcycle a few days ago and threatened her daughter of life if his demands are not fulfilled. The marriage took place in 2011.
Nilgiri police registered a case (54/2015) against four persons under sections 498 (A) (cruelty by husband), 302 (murder), 304 (B) (harassment for dowry) and 34 (acts done by many) of IPC and under Dowry Prohibition Act.
