Search for new ‘acceptable’ Keonjhar BJD unit chief

Keonjhar: As the term of the Keonjhar BJD unit president Ashish Chakraborty had ended, the party has started searching for a right leader to helm the unit.  As the general elections are a few months away, the state leadership has given importance to the district unit of the party, a report said.

It is learnt that in the last few years some old party workers have been unhappy as they felt neglected when the state organization has not taken any impressive step to strengthen its base.

They have expressed their unhappiness to the district unit president and written to the state leadership. Now, they are waiting for the new president. Some party insiders say the district is now virtually non-existent and if the state organization appoints any inefficient leader as president, it will trigger internecine squabble.

When the state party unit had asked the minister from the district to recommend a name for the post, he is believed to have recommended the name of his trusted supporter to the post.

Political observers said that an efficient person with organizational expertise should not be handed over the charge.

Some names of BJD leaders like president of Keonjhar Central Cooperative Bank Kanan Bihari Pahi; former MP Madhab Sardar; chairperson of the District Planning Committee and Patna MLA Hrushikesh Nayak; former MP Jasobant Narayan Singh Laguri; district youth BJD president Soumya Shankar Chakra are doing the rounds for the post. But their names have not been recommended to the state organization, it is alleged.

It is learnt that names of some people without experience in organizational matters and with pending police cases against them have been recommended to the BJD high command. It has caused discontent among the cadre in the district.

If an acceptable face is not handed over the district charge, the party will have to face factionalism in future, some party workers have noted.
