Search for Sudarshan’s ‘daru’ ends at Balakati

Puri/Kakatpur/Balakati, April 12: A neem tree found at Hirapur near Balakati has been finally selected by servitors participating in the Banajaga Yatra for Lord Sudarshan. An announcement in this regard was made by Daitapati Nijog secretary Premananda Mohapatra Saturday.
The neem tree which was chosen for carving of Lord Sudarshan is situated along the embankment of river Kuakhai. It was selected by the senior servitors participating in the Banajaga Yatra after making a complete analysis of the celestial features of eight shortlisted neem trees Saturday.
Thereafter, a meeting of the head of the team of servitors and other members was held at Sabarpalli. The head of Srimandir temple administration Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, inspector general of police R P Koche and superintendent of police Ashish Kumar Singh reached Sabarpalli at around 10 pm and attended the meet. The discussions continued till late night.
Discussions were held on choosing one of the four neem trees found at Hirapur near Balakati, Mahula near Khurda, Kharipadia in Raghunathpur block and at Jhankada. Finally, the servitors zeroed in on the neem tree at Hiraput near Balakati and gave their approval to use it for making the idol of Lord Sudarshan.
