Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: In the wake of alerts issued by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) of a possible terror attack in Orissa, the Commissionerate Police has beefed up security in and around the Capital.
Twin city commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma told Orissa POST, they have tightened patrolling in the region. “We are closely monitoring people coming into the state. All hotels have been asked to inform us if they find any suspicious person checking in,” he added.
Sharma said the cops in uniforms as well as in plain clothes are keeping a vigil round-the-clock at important locations such as the railway station and bus stand in the city. “A close watch is kept on all entry routes and the Quick Action Team (QAT) has also been put on alert. We are also tracking any suspicious movement near the Republic Day parade venue,” he added.
Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said after getting IB alerts, robust security arrangements were made in the city. He, however, expressed his displeasure over the inputs given by the
intelligence agency saying they were not specific. “The IB has not given any specific input to us. They have just said one module of a banned outfit is active in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Orissa Police have beefed up security arrangements across its 30 districts. All 18 marine police stations manning coastal security have been put on high alert, Director General of Police Sanjiv Marik said.
Earlier, the intelligence alert said militant groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen were spread across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa.
