Malkangiri: Security has been tightened ahead of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit here Thursday to inaugurate the 910-metre long Gururpriya bridge, said to be the lifeline of the people in cut-off areas. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Chief Minister’s visit.
District Collector Manish Agarwal in a meeting with the police and administration officials asked everyone to remain alert.
After the inauguration, the Chief Minister is slated to interact with panchayat raj institution members and villagers as part of the ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ programme here Thursday.
All security arrangements have been made anticipating that around 50,000 people from across the district will attend the programme. The district unit of the BJD and local legislator Manas Madkami are upbeat about the Chief Minister’s visit.
Meanwhile, the police have heightened security planning in the cut-off areas after Maoists opposed inauguration of the bridge.
The bridge and its area have been sanitised and area domination operations have been started by personnel of the BSF, DVF and SOG at Badapada, Janbai and adjoining areas, said SP Jagmohan Meena.
BSF personnel are keeping a close watch on the helipads at Badapada and Janbai. The Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed seven storied district headquarters hospital and 48 other projects during his visit.
Over 30,000 people living in 151 revenue villages near Chitrakonda reservoir in this district will benefit and get connected to the rest of the world after the bridge is inaugurated.
The doors of development will open to people in the villages of Andrapali, Panasput, Jodaambam Paprmetla, Ralegeda, Badapada, Jantri, Gajalmamudi and Dhuliput who had been living in seclusion and deprivation.
