Cuttack, June 6: Five players are leading the pack with four points apiece after the end of the fourth round in the open category of the Orissa State U-11 Chess Championship here Saturday. They are Sambit Panda, Mahitosh Dey, Dikshant Dash, Abinash Mohanty of Khurda and Vaibhav Singh of Cuttack. Same number of players are also sharing the second spot with 3.5 points apiece.
Top seed Sambit outwitted Yasoman Patra, while second seed Mahitosh got the better of Soubhanik Mazumdar. Third seed Dikshant made merry against Rishabh Anand and Abinash defeated Rudranarayan. Vaibhav overcame Soyamsree Mohanty, while fourth seed Arnav Aryan Samantaray was forced to share points with Aditya Anurakta Mohanty.
In the girls’ category, three players are sharing the top spot with four points each. They are Aditi Mohanty, Ankita Sahoo and Adhisha Dash of Cuttack. Tanvi Mallick (3.5) of Khurda is lagging on the lone second spot, while eleven players are in the joint third spot with three points each.
Top seed Ankita checkmated sixth seed P Sairupa, while fourth seed Aditi earned a hard fought victory against Yashaswini Sarangi. Adisha got the better of Priyanka Routray.
