Septuagenarian woman assaulted by son and daughter-in-law, seeks police intervention

Phulbani: In a shocking incident, a septuagenarian woman was beaten up by her son and daughter-in-law over a sum of money, following which she sought police intervention.

The incident is reported from Amlapada area in Kandhamal district’s Phulbani town.

A source said that the elderly couple Utsab Nayak and Kuntala Nayak has three sons and one daughter. But they are staying with their daughter after the sons refused to keep them.  However they had agreed to give their parents some money every month. The elder and middle sons used to give Rs 1500 each per month, while the youngest son Rs 1000 a month.

The middle son Ramesh Nayak had stopped paying his part of money for two months. It was when she visited Ramesh’s house Sunday to know the reason why he had stopped paying the money that Ramesh and his wife assaulted her in front of their house. Their anger did not subdue here. They dragged her into the house and then beat her up mercilessly, forgetting any filial duty.

Thereafter she approached the Phulbani town police, seeking their intervention. She narrated how she was assaulted physically, showing the bruises on her body.

The police have asked the accused son and daughter-in-law to appear before the police. Meanwhile, Ramesh’s wife has absconded since receiving the notice.
