Baripada: Five persons were killed in separate road accidents in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district Monday, police said.

Both the accidents took place within Karanjia police station limits in the tribal-dominated district, they said.

A couple riding a motorcycle was killed after a head-on collision with an SUV near Bamanasala on National Highway-220.

“Both the husband and wife died on the spot,” SDPO Karanjia Nabakrushna Nayak said.

In another incident, a Udala-bound bus from Karanjia collided with a car near Kadadiha on the Thakurmunda-Karanjia road.

Three persons travelling in the car were critically injured and admitted to Karanjia sub-divisional hospital, where two were declared dead by a doctor.

Later, the injured, who was shifted to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital, also died.

The deceased have been identified as Pradip Balasamant, Nilamani Sahu and Madhu Balasamant, police said.
