Bhubaneswar, August 18: In the latest turn of events, a PhD scholar of IIT-Bhubaneswar, who had alleged sexual harassment by her supervisor — a senior professor of the institute — filed a formal complaint with the Mahila police station here Friday.

The woman, hailing from West Bengal, has lodged the FIR against Prof. PD Reddy, saying he was sexually harassing her as also a few other IIT officials.

Earlier, IIT-Bhubaneswar had refuted the allegations of the woman and clarified that the institute has complied with all statutory requirements holistically in referring the matter to the internal complaints committee (ICC).

In a press release, it claimed that the girl was admitted to IIT-Bhubaneswar in July 2011 and she brought the allegations of sexual harassment five years later — October 6, 2016.

“The matter was then referred to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). However, she was not satisfied with the report of ICC and has now raised her voice once again demanding justice,” the release had said.

“There is nothing pending with the institute and all statutory requirements have been completed holistically,” it had added. Challenging the report of the ICC, the woman lodged the complaint at the Mahila police station.

In July, the woman had sent a notice to the Director of IIT through her lawyer. She had also written to CM Naveen Patnaik and PMNarendra Modi seeking their intervention.

After getting information about the incident, deputy secretary of Skill Development and Technical Education Department PK Sarangi had sought an immediate report from the IIT Director.
