Shamuka project plan to be altered

Bhubaneswar: The original master plan for the proposed Shamuka project on the Puri coast will be changed in the wake of changing natural environment.

Reviewing the progress of the project Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy said some changes need to be made in the original master plan keeping in view the changing natural environment.

He said now sand bars are being created on the coast. Some internal changes would be made in the master plan without doing any harm to the sand bars.

Art and culture centres, museums, luxury hotels, gold course, villa, residential apartments, street bazaar and guest houses would be developed in the area under the project which would also have open space and park. Various parts of the project would be developed as per the demand.

The revised master plan would be completed within four months, the Chief Secretary said.

A joint venture company in the name of ‘Shamuka Tourism Development Corporation’ has been formed with the partnership of the Industrial Development Corporation (Idco) and Odisha Tourism Development Corporation.

Clearance from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Coastal Region Zonal Management Authority and Puri Konark Development Authority has been obtained for the project.

Tripathy said 972 acres of land has already been acquired for the project. He directed the Idco to start construction of boundary wall of the project at the earliest.

Idco has been asked to prepare a blue print of the project to make it world class to attract high-end tourists to the state.
