Kaliapani: Even as the government is making all-out efforts to ensure development of Nagada under Sukinda block in Jajpur district, as many as 12 self help groups (SHGs) were formed for the first time in the hilltop village Sunday, by taking women as members under the Orissa Livelihood Mission.
The 12 SHGs comprise women from Nagada-3, Majhi Nagada-2, Upara Nagada-1, Tumuni-3 and Guhiashala-3. The Orissa Livelihood Mission will provide `15,000 as assistance to each SHG, it was learnt.
Chingudipal Mahasangh will also provide `50,000 to each SHG without any interest. The SHG members will take up a host of income-generating activities like goat rearing, poultry farming, vegetable cultivation, bamboo craft, and sal leaf plate making.
“A plan has been drawn to train the women in Nagada about such income-generating activities,” said Nibedita Biswal, the block level coordinator of Orissa Livelihood Mission (Sukinda Branch).
Meanwhile, Manasi, one of the malnourished children of Nagada, whose photograph had grabbed the attention of the media, because of her weak constitution, returned to her village from the temporary nutrition rehabilitation centre at Tata Steel hospital, Saturday. She along with 21 other children were admitted to the hospital July 16. She has gained her weight by 900 gm, it was learnt.
Sunday, a 16-month-old child, Mithun Hansda, of Chirugunia was admitted to the rehabilitation centre for
