Shilpa Rao shares video of controversial cut-short Mumbai festival performance

New Delhi: Singer Shilpa Rao has shared a video of her performance at the Bollywood Music Project (BMP) in Mumbai, days after her set was abruptly cut short at the music festival.

On Wednesday, Rao shared the clip of her singing ‘Khuda Jaane’ from the 2008 film Bachna Ae Haseeno, with the audience singing along with her.

“I sing for you with all my heart…and that’s all that matters,” her caption read.

The singer, known for tracks such as “Chaleya”, “Tere Hawaale”, and “Besharam Rang”, was performing at the 10th-anniversary edition of BMP October 24 when her mic was switched off before she could complete her set.

Even as she tried to thank the audience from the stage, singer Kutle Khan began his performance, disrupting her farewell.

Following the incident, the 42-year-old artist expressed her disappointment in an emotional Instagram post, saying the experience deeply hurt her.

“Mumbai, a piece of my heart broke tonight. It hurts deeply to have something so beautiful taken away from us like this. But even when the music stopped you didn’t,” she wrote.

“The way you kept calling my name, the love in your voices, I could feel it all. I promise I will come back to Mumbai,” she added.

The organisers later apologised for the abrupt conclusion of her set, citing delays caused by earlier performances and venue curfew regulations.
