Tirtol: Two siblings were arrested here for their alleged involvement in multiple cyber fraud cases linked to a Common Service Centre (CSC) at Krishnanandapur market in Jagatsinghpur district. They were arrested in Kataka Saturday and produced in court.
Another accused remains absconding. The accused, Sheikh Abu Sofi and his younger sibling, Sheikh Abukalam Yusuf, are residents of Akhun Mohalla village. Police said they operated a CSC at the market, which was allegedly used to carry out cyber fraud.
Investigators suspect that one-time passwords (OTPs) and fingerprints were misused during know-your-customer (KYC) verification and financial transactions. Nine fraud cases involving a total of Rs 57.53 lakh have been reported in connection with the alleged racket.
Tirtol Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ajay Kumar Das disclosed the details at a press conference after police claimed to have busted the network. Police said Shamsher Ali, a senior citizen from Bareghar village under Krushnanandapur police station limits, lodged a complaint September 3, alleging that he had been cheated of Rs 8.9 lakh at the CSC by Sheikh Anwar Iqbal, an employee at the centre.
The investigation is continuing to establish the accused’s alleged involvement in other cyber fraud cases.
