Buguda: A youth and his younger sister sustained injuries after a gas stove exploded in their house at Golamundala under Buguda NAC in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The two injured – Aswini Gouda, 24, and his sister Pujarani Gouda, 18 – were rescued with severe burn injuries and rushed to the local community health centre (CHC). After forst-aid, the two were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur for further treatment as their condition deteriorated.
According to sources, the siblings were cooking food while their family members Nanda Gouda and Binod Gouda had gone out for work. Suddenly, the gas stove exploded critically injuring Pujarani.
Aswini who was in an adjacent room, rushed to the kitchen hearing Pujarani’s screams and suffered burn injuries in a bid to save her.
Neighbours came to their rescue and alerted the fire brigade personnel who reached the spot and doused the flames. While nothing has been ascertained, gas leakage is suspected to be behind the explosion.
