Baripada: A tiger cub rescued from Khaparakhai village under Thakurmunda range in Mayurbhanj district is showing gradual improvement in its health, forest officials said.
The seven to eight-month-old cub, rescued after it strayed into a cowshed Thursday night, has been kept in isolation at a Forest department campus where it is undergoing treatment under the supervision of forest officials and a veterinary team.
The Forest department rescued the cub safely Friday and began its treatment. It has so far consumed around 2.5 kg of meat, which was administered with medicines. Officials said the cub is now calm and gradually regaining strength.

A veterinary team and forest officials are keeping a round-the-clock watch on the cub’s condition. Its blood sample has already been collected and sent for examination, officials said.
The cub will be provided with additional food in the coming days to help improve its strength and fitness, officials said. Dr Prakash Chand Gogineni, field director of Similipal Tiger Reserve and Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF), said the health condition of the rescued cub was improving gradually.
