Singam strikes script triumph

Imphal: Singam Subash Singh scored a brace to help Neroca FC register a 2-1 win over Indian Arrows and move up to the second position in the I-League table, here Friday.

Singam got his his goals in the 39th and 45th minutes and could have easily achieved a hat-trick had he not missed the easiest of chances in the second session. It was a game that NEROCA dominated for most part.

Birthday boy Abhijit Sarkar (89th) scored a late consolation goal for the Arrows but it couldn’t deter the Gift Raikhan-coached team from bagging all three points at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium here.

Nigerian Felix Chidi was at the forefront of most of Neroca’s attack. He was a constant threat to the opposition defence and provided the perfect pass for Singam to score the opening goal. He was ably aided by midfielder Akhlidin Israilov, who controlled the flow of the game with his beautiful ball distribution.

The first goal came when Israilov released a well-weighted through-ball which Chidi picked up and laid it onto the path of the onrushing Singam who chipped it over opposition goalie Prabshukhan. At the stroke of half time, Israilov turned provider and Singam again scored.
