Bhubaneswar: Sona Mohapatra, the singer of cult Sambalpuri song ‘Rangabati’, has complained to police that she has received death threats from the Madariya Sufi Foundation Tuesday.
In a series of tweets to the Mumbai police, Sona alleged that the foundation had sent her a message, threatening her with dire consequences if she does not take down her latest music video. The message said its rendering did not comply with the established Sufi format.
“Respected @CPMumbaiPolice, I have (got) a threatening email notice from the Madariya Sufi Foundation demanding that I take down a music video that has been passed by the censor board of India & I would like to forward the same to your official email ID along with my response,” read her tweet.
The organisation claimed that the video was vulgar and that it would flare communal tensions, as per Sona’s version of the message.
