SIS team wins TCS quiz

Bhubaneswar, August 26: The two-member team of Akshat Praneet and Sampriti Panda of Sai International School (SIS) won the TCS IT Wiz quiz held at a hotel here Friday.

The duo, adjudged regional champions, walked away with an iPad air each. The team of Sibaprasad Reddy and Spandan Dash from DAV school, Unit-VIII, were the runners-up. They received an iPad mini each along with a specially designed trophy and medals.
The winners will be flown to Mumbai along with a teacher or parent to take part in the national finals to be held in December.

It was the second time the SIS team of Akshat and Sampriti had won the quiz and they said they are now focusing on the national level competition.
TCS IT Wiz 2016 is being held at 15 cities — Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Visakhapatnam.

In Orissa, more than 1,000 students from various schools in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and other districts participated in the event, which is claimed to be India’s biggest inter-school quiz and is organised by Tata Consultancy Services.

The competition was open to students from classes VII to XII. The participants had to clear a preliminary round of written exams and from among them six teams — Sai International School, DAV School Unit VIII, DAV School Pokhariput, Mother’s Public School,  MB School and St Paul’s School from Rourkela  — qualified for the final round.
Quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam, popularly known as Pickbrain, grilled the teams through five gruelling rounds. The theme of this years’ quiz was ‘Default Is Digital’. Most questions were based on technological trends that are poised to have huge traction across the globe.

Through the competition, the organiser is aiming to help the students understand various technologies. The prizes were distributed by the guest of  honour Rudra Narayan Palai, special secretary, education and IT, along with Manoj Panda, TCS Center Head, Orissa.
